The Preventing and Responding to Violence in the Workplace course describes the scope of workplace violence in healthcare, defines and provides examples of workplace violence behavior, compares risk assessment tools and prevention programs, and provides strategies for improving personal safety, implementing de-escalation techniques, and reporting incidents.
The course is divided into 5 sections, with a quiz following each section. The sections are divided as follows: 1) Background and Scope, 2) Assessing Challenging Behaviors, 3) De-escalation Strategies, 4) Personal Safety, and 5) Incident Reporting.

About the Author
Dr. Michelle Aebersold is a Clinical Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Information and an XR Faculty Innovator in Residence. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and a Fellow in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Dr. Aebersold has extensive experience in using a variety of simulation learning methods including Extended Realities to improve the care of patients through caregiver education and training. She has worked on a grant-funded projects using immersive virtual reality for training in cardiac arrest leaders and teams, practice readiness, oncology safety, and multidisciplinary collaboration to improve healthcare.
Dr. Aebersold has numerous publications, presents on a variety of topics and is often an invited speaker at international, regional, and local conferences. She consults with nursing schools around improving their simulation programs, developing virtual educational assets and other projects.
