The Safety and Professionalism in Community-based Nursing Practice course uses a variety of content formats to describe the importance of and provide strategies for effective communication and maintaining professionalism to promote safety while working in the community. Appendix 1 provides further resources for trainers for incorporation of virtual educational resources into the design of transition to practice efforts to enhance the learner experience.

The Safety and Professionalism in Community-Based Nursing course is divided into 3 sections, with a quiz following each section. The sections are divided as follows: 1) Introduction, 2) Professionalism, and 3) Communication, with an optional appendix with further resources for trainers.

A total of 1.25 Nursing CE credits have been awarded for this activity by the Michigan Public Health Institute - Continuing Education Solutions (MPHI CES 202863491).

Safety and Professionalism in Community-Based Nursing Practice - Objectives

After completing this module, you should be able to:

1. Review the scope and impact of workplace violence in community-based care
2. Identify tips for staying safe in community-based settings
3. Identify potentially dangerous situations in the community
4. Utilize safe care practices
5. Recognize unprofessional behavior and key characteristics of professionalism in community-based settings
6. Utilize effective communication strategies
7. Recognize signs of escalation
8. Apply de-escalation techniques

100% of participants will pass a post test after each section with a cumulative quiz score of 84% or higher demonstrating knowledge of appropriate communication techniques and behavior.
